Motorway tunnels

The highway tunnels in Ticino—Stalvedro, Piottino, Pardorea, Casletto, Piumogna, Biaschina, Ceneri, Melide-Grancia, Vedeggio-Cassarate, Ascona, and Mappo Morettina (currently under construction)—are protected by Fittich’s latest-generation fiber-optic linear fire detection system. In most tunnels, the technical rooms are also protected by fire detection systems. The tunnel fire detection system detects both the presence of smoke and rising temperatures with two distinct and independent systems, allowing for rapid firefighter intervention and automatically activating safety features such as traffic lights, ventilation, and emergency lights.
